My mind and heart was with Pete and Roman, but I was looking put together in a pantsuit with lantern sleeves and strappy heels. My long hair was brushed into a half ponytail. Loose strands framed my face while the rest flowed over my shoulders in a tangled mass. Aiden was downstairs lounging in the living room like he didn’t spend twenty-plus hours in the same clothes. He kissed my cheek, “Welcome Back Sexy.”

“I’m not one hundred percent, but it is what it is.” All I had time for was one exhausted sigh. The safety on my gun was checked before it got tucked in my shoulder bag.

Aiden was truly a godsend. He had personal assistants doing everything from running errands to picking up food from Leila’s house and bringing it to mine. We left the house, and my back seat was stacked with foiled-covered metal tins wrapped in bags and store-purchased desserts.

Vito left his car, “What’s going on?”

Aiden ignored him and paid his assistant. She was on her way by the time Lorenzo was called. Arturo didn’t approach us. He leaned against their car, looking amused. He started working for The Ricci Family last year. I don’t know his damage, but he keeps to himself. Vito didn’t. He was always loud for no damn reason.

Vito frowned and grunted while glaring at Aiden until the call ended. He cleared his throat and politely spoke to me, “Lorenzo said you’ll be gone this afternoon.”

Antonio relayed something from my texts earlier. Cool because I wasn’t telling anybody anything, but Aiden knew about my plans to see Roman. His eyes locked on mine, “Drive straight to your destination. No stops.”

“I’ll take you home,” I quickly changed up, forgetting my situation. “Never mind it’s not safe to do it.”

“I can take care of myself. I’m worried about you,” Aiden replied. “Aim steady. Don’t miss.”

“I won’t. I’m paying for your ride.”

“You’re not,” Aiden glanced at Vito. “Why are you still standing here?” Vito looked ready to argue but decided against it. Aiden waited until he went back to his car. “I’m not liking this situation.”

“I know, thanks for taking care of me. I need to see him,” I said without mentioning Roman’s name.

“I get that. Text when you get there. I want a kiss,” Aiden stated and waited with the patience of a weary king.

It felt good to be in his arms. “I kissed him twice and cuddled close to his chest. “Thanks for having my back.”

“Never question it. Get out the cold,” Aiden slapped my ass and pointed to my car. His ride arrived seconds later.

I settled in with my engine purring. Aiden’s car eased onto the street. He looked in my direction handsome as ever. It was a few seconds before the car passed. I released a deep sigh. It hurt my heart to have him stressing. I hit the road. Lorenzo’s men peeled off and sped past with all the dramatics. I was being followed by a dark sedan. Antonio had someone checking on me.
